    cups of AIP Hot 'Chocolate'

This AIP Hot Chocolate is sweet, thick and chocolatey, even with carob (not chocolate). It takes just a few ingredients and less then 10 minutes to make this delicious AIP hot drink.

    mugs of AIP Hot 'Chocolate'

    Is chocolate allowed on AIP?

Nope. Chocolate is known as a bean but it’d actually a seed. And seeds are not AIP friendly (at least during the elimination stage). Carob is used as a chocolate substitute.

Carob is actually a legume with an edible pod but it’s still allowed during the elimination phase. It’s acceptable because it’s made from grinding up the pod not the seeds. [source]

    Is honey allowed on AIP?

Yes. Many people believe that zero sweeteners are allowed while in the elimination stage of the protocol. But molasses, honey, maple syrup, coconut sugar, and maple syrup are all allowed in small quantities. I prefer to use honey and molasses when possible as they are the least processed and have additional health benefits. [source]

How to make AIP Hot Chocolate

    1. Add the water to a small saucepan and bring to a boil.

    2. Add the remaining ingredients to the water, whisk until smooth and cook until heated through and just before it boils.

    3. Remove from heat and divide amongst two mugs and serve immediately.

step by step instructions for making AIP Hot 'Chocolate'

Tips for making the BEST AIP Hot 'Chocolate'

    • Make sure to use coconut cream that’s AIP friendly. I like this brand but always check ingredients before purchasing.
    • If you tolerate vanilla extract you can use that instead of vanilla powder but add it at the end. Additionally, you will need 1/2 teaspoon of extract.
    • Make sure to use vanilla powder that’s pure vanilla and doesn’t contain additives. I use this brand. It’s expensive but you use less than extract and it lasts a long time.
    • You can add the sweetener of your choice, but I prefer maple syrup or honey.

    Helpful Info For All Recipes

    • I always use extra virgin olive oil in all of my recipes unless stated otherwise.
    • I always use Himalayan sea salt or Celtic sea salt, unless otherwise noted.
    • The majority of my recipes are strict AIP or include notations for reintroductions. However while I make every effort to label non-AIP ingredients and recipes sometimes they slip past me. If you have questions, please ask in advance.

Recipe fine. As far as “coconut cream”, they’re no such thing. The fat and water separate. The arroy d brand is a lie. I’ve bought it and it contains polysorbate. There is no way the coconut and water blends together so creamy “naturally”. I had to give all 32.00 worth away because of false advertising and people actually believe in”coconut cream “!

Up until recently aroy d coconut milk and savoy coconut cream brand only contained water and coconut. Unfortunately that has changed. I'm extremely disappointed in these brands and the changes they made to their products. However, I'm working on finding alternative sources that work with my recipes. I'll share my findings as soon as I can. Additionally, coconut cream exists. That's just a fact.

I made this today. I only used half of the maple syrup that the recipe called for and it was still delicious!

This looks amazing! Can the collagen be omitted? I do not have any o my grass fed gelatin (which is different).

Just recipe was amazing. I used 2 tablespoons instead of 3 tablespoons of the carob powder. Also, I omitted the collagen. I sweetened with lankanto monk fruit and it was delicious! Since it made 2 cups I put the other cup in the fridge for the next day; reheated on the stove, added a splash of water and coconut milk to thin out the taste of the carob and it was even good the next day.

My new go to recipe . Beth, thank you for sharing this recipe!❤️
