This AIP Taco Seasoning reimagines taco seasoning for those on the AIP diet. It’s a citrusy, savory and warm flavor that’s reminiscent of traditional taco seasoning just without the nightshades.
What spices are AIP friendly?
Lots of spices are AIP friendly such as oregano, thyme, sage, bay, lavender, garlic powder, etc. Rest assured that all the of the spices in this AIP Taco Seasoning are totally AIP friendly.
Taco seasoning is hard to recreate an exact flavor profile because it uses a combination of ground pepper, dried chilis and cumin. Those flavors and the heat are difficult (if not impossible) to replicate with AIP ingredients. That’s why this recipe is more of a reimagining not an exact replica.
Which taco seasoning is the best?
I’ve used many AIP taco seasonings in the past and they’ve all fallen flat. They were just boring and didn’t pack much punch. I’d end up dumping the entire spice blend into the dish and it ended up just tasting like oregano.
This recipe may have some unusual ingredients like gathoda powder, ground dried lime and lemon powder but it really captures the best parts of a traditional taco seasoning. It’s warming (cinnamon instead of chili powder), savory (I used gathoda powder instead of cumin for this flavor) and has a slightly citrusy flavor (that you usually get from coriander but used lemon and lime instead). It really makes the BEST AIP Taco Seasoning.

I'm so glad you liked it! I really think it's the lemon and lime peel that make it taste the most like a more conventional taco seasoning.
