    Dairy Free Brownies (Nut, Egg Free & AIP Brownie options)

    This Dairy Free Brownies recipe tastes just like brownies from a box but it’s butter free. It also has options for nut free, eggless and AIP brownies which means these are totally allergy friendly brownies. One thing that this recipe doesn’t leave out is flavor. These non-dairy brownies are outstanding!

    Ingredients for Dairy Free Brownies

    • Nut/Cassava Free Grain Free Flour Blend. Beth Blends nut-free paleo flour blend is the perfect gluten/grain free flour for allergy friendly brownies.
    • Coconut Sugar. If you would like to avoid nuts altogether, you can substitute coconut sugar for maple sugar.
    • Pinch of Salt
    • Vanilla Extract
    • Eggs
    • Dairy Free Chocolate Chips. Make sure to use dairy free chocolate chips to keep the recipe dairy free. Hu Chocolate is preferred as it uses coconut sugar. However, Enjoy Life also makes dairy free chocolate chips.
    • Coconut Oil. Make sure to use unrefined coconut oil. And if you’d like to avoid coconut to make this recipe totally nut free, you can substitute with Avocado Oil.

    Additional Ingredients for Eggless Brownies

    • Gelatin. Make sure to use a high quality, grass-fed gelatin.
    • Pumpkin Purée. Make sure you use pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie filling. Check the ingredients to be sure that the only ingredient is pumpkin.

    Additional Ingredients for AIP Brownies

    • Carob. Make sure to check the ingredients so that it doesn’t contain any additional ingredients like sugar. The only ingredient should be carob.
    • Coconut Milk

    How to make Dairy Free Chocolate Brownies

    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

    2. Combine all the dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl.

    3. Add the vanilla and eggs to the bowl. Combine then set aside.

    4. In a small bowl, add the chocolate chips and coconut oil. Place in the microwave for about 30 seconds, stir and then microwave for another 30 seconds then stir again.

    5. Pour the chocolate into the large mixing bowl and stir to combine.

    6. Pour the brownie batter into an 8x8 baking dish.

    7. Place into the oven for about 30 minutes. Then remove and let cool completely before serving.

    Tips for making the best Dairy Free Brownies

    • To make Eggless Brownies, you’ll need to change the amounts of the following ingredients 1 1/2 cups Nut/Cassava Free Grain Free Flour Blend, 2 tablespoons Gelatin, 1/4 cup Coconut Oil. And you’ll need 1/2 cup pumpkin puree. To prepare, combine all the dry ingredients, then add in the wet ingredients. Then prepare the chocolate and oil as per step 4. Then follow the remaining steps as per the instructions.
    • To make AIP Brownies, you’ll need the following ingredients:  1 1/2 cup Nut/Cassava Free Grain Free Flour Blend, 2 tablespoons gelatin, 1 cup carob, 1 cup coconut sugar, 1 cup Pumpkin purée, 1/2 cup Coconut Milk and 1/2 cup Coconut Oil. To make the brownies, combine the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl then stir in the wet ingredients. Pour into an 8x8 baking dish and bake according to instructions above.
    • For the non-dairy brownies recipe as well as the eggless brownie recipe, I tried using cocoa powder, but dairy free chocolate chips produced much better results.
    • For dairy free chocolate chips try Hu or Enjoy Life. Hu uses coconut sugar which is always preferred over refined sugar. However, if you need to be nut free (other than coconut) Enjoy Life is made in a nut free facility (please check with company before buying as they can change facilities and/or ingredients at any time).
    • If you’d like to make this recipe nut free, substitute coconut sugar for maple sugar, coconut milk for another type of milk such as tigernut milk and the coconut oil with avocado oil. Additionally, you’ll need to use the Enjoy Life chocolate chips as they are made in a nut free facility (although you should always read the ingredients as companies will and do change their facilities, policies, and ingredients without notice).

    What brownie mixes are dairy free?

    Growing up, no one made brownies from scratch. Boxed brownies were the norm and is now the standard by which all brownies are currently measured. But they are filled with gluten, dairy, and refined sugar. There are a few mixes that are dairy free. However, making them from scratch means that you can ensure its suited to your allergens, dietary needs, and high food quality standards.

    Can you make dairy free brownies from scratch?

    Sure! Just a few substitutions and this recipe can be adapted to be not just gluten but grain free, dairy free, egg free and totally AIP. This recipe is outstanding, and anyone will enjoy this dairy free dessert. I'd serve it warm, alongside AIP Black Cherry Ice Cream.

    What can I use in brownies instead of milk? And butter?

    In this recipe, coconut milk is used as a substitute for cow’s milk. And coconut oil is used as a substitute for butter. Just make sure to use Hu or Enjoy Life chocolate chips as they are both dairy free. Hu Chocolate goes a step further and uses coconut sugar instead of refined sugar.

    Why these Dairy Free Brownies work?

    When a brownies recipe doesn’t use butter, milk, or flour, some may begin to wonder what exactly is left? However, this butter free brownies recipe works because we use chocolate chips and eggs. These ingredients are key to making perfect brownies that taste like they were from a box.     Allergy friendly brownies

    Once I figured out the gluten and dairy free brownies, I wanted to go a few steps further and create a few additional recipe options which were eggless and AIP.  Eggs are a top 8 allergen. And chocolate is technically a seed and not allowed during the elimination stage of the AIP diet.

    • Eggless Brownies: To make Eggless Brownies, you’ll need to change the amounts of the following ingredients 1 1/2 cups Nut/Cassava Free Grain Free Flour Blend, 2 tablespoons Gelatin, 1/4 cup Coconut Oil. And you’ll need 1/2 cup pumpkin puree. To prepare, combine all the dry ingredients, then add in the wet ingredients. Then prepare the chocolate and oil as per step 4. Then follow the remaining steps as per the instructions.
    • AIP Brownies: To make AIP Brownies, you’ll need the following ingredients:  1 1/2 cup Nut/Cassava Free Grain Free Flour Blend, 2 tablespoons gelatin, 1 cup carob, 1 cup coconut sugar, 1 cup Pumpkin purée, 1/2 cup Coconut Milk and 1/2 cup Coconut Oil. To make the brownies, combine the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl then stir in the wet ingredients. Pour into an 8x8 baking dish and bake according to instructions above.
    • Nut Free: If you’d like to make this recipe completely nut free, you need to substitute the coconut sugar, milk and oil for maple sugar, another type of milk such as tigernut milk and avocado oil. Additionally, you’ll need to use the Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips in the non-dairy Brownies recipe and the Eggless Brownies option. The AIP Brownies option doesn’t use chocolate so just substituting the coconut sugar, milk and oil will suffice.

    Small Batch Dairy Free Brownies

    For whatever reason, you may not want or need a full pan of brownies, this recipe (and it has nut free, eggless and AIP options) can all be made into small batch brownie recipes.  Just half the ingredients, bake in a loaf pan and reduce the cooking time by 10-15 minutes. You may also want to line the loaf pan with parchment just for ease of removing from the smaller pan.     • 8x8 Baking Dish

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup Nut/Cassava Free Grain Free Flour Blend
    • 1 cup Coconut Sugar
    • pinch Salt
    • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
    • 2 Eggs
    • 1 cup Chocolate Chips Dairy Free
    • 1/2 cup Coconut Oil

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

      Is there a flour blend that I can mix up on my own to substitute for the Beth Blends flour? It's cheaper to mix up my own.

      I made the AIP version and it was amazing! I don’t know how it’s possible, but they do taste like they’re from a box. Definitely will be making these again and again.
