Please note that the fundraiser has ended for 2018. Thank you to everyone that purchased a shirt. We were able to raise a little over $500 to support the Terry Wahls MD Research Fund. If you would like to donate directly to the fund, please visit www.GivetoIowa.org/Wahls.
When fighting a chronic illness, the feeling of hopelessness almost certainly overwhelms you at some point. Finding the AIP diet, the AIP community and studies being done to help understand autoimmune related diseases has restored my faith in our ability to one day overcome these chronic health issues. If I hadn’t ‘followed my gut’ then I would never have found this wonderful and supportive community. The AIP community has given me so much that I wanted to give back in a meaningful way. For that reason, I'm launching a t-shirt fundraiser to support Terry Wahls MD Research Fund, today.
What does the t-shirt say?
The shirt says ‘Follow your gut’ and is available for sale (via Amazon however they are not affiliated with the fundraiser). The proceeds from the sale of the shirts will be donated to charity from June 1 to July 31, 2018. It comes in multiple colors and sizes however, the sizes run small so take that into consideration when making a purchase.
Why ‘Follow Your Gut?’
The term ‘follow your gut’ was chosen for three reasons. First, it was the most popular choice by you. If you missed it, there was a social media poll and ‘follow your gut’ won in a landslide. Second, it can take years to be diagnosed with an autoimmune condition. Therefore it's always important to follow your gut and continue seeking help when you know something is wrong.
Third, I think we all believe that your overall health begins in your gut. 'Follow your gut' has a real significance when it comes to not only gut health but also your overall health.
Who are we going to help?
The proceeds will be donated to the Terry Wahls MD Research Fund. Proceeds will be used to grow the diet and lifestyle research of the Wahls Protocol. Private support has allowed Dr. Wahls and her research team to grow her clinical research and apply for larger national grants, like the MS Society grant to research the Wahls Elimination diet vs Swank Diet and its effects on MS fatigue. In addition to the clinical research in MS, Dr. Wahls and her research team are looking to study the Wahls Elimination diet in the setting of ALS, and other chronic diseases. Through her research and developing the Wahls Protocol, she has helped thousands of individuals around the world reverse or stop the progression of their diseases.
Who is Terry Wahls? What is the Wahls Protocol?
Dr. Terry Wahls is not only the creator of the Wahls protocol but also one of the most inspiring success stories. For more on her story, check out this Ted talk via her website. The Wahl’s protocol is very similar to the Autoimmune Protocol as it is also used to treat autoimmune conditions.

Hi I would like to purchase a shirt and support Dr. Wahls but I'm confused. If I order through the Amazon link provided does a portion of the money go to the fundraiser? Above in the article it's stated that ordering through Amazon doesn't support the fundraiser? Thank you!
Beth says
Hi Helen,
Amazon isn't affiliated with the fundraiser. They won't be making the donation. I will be taking the proceeds that normally go to me and donating them to the charity instead. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks, Beth
