Honey Simple Syrup is my secret ingredient to making delicious cocktails, mocktails and salad dressings. It’s a healthier substitute for simple syrup.

How do you mix honey in cold drinks?

Honey just seizes up when you poor it into a cold liquid. It’s hard to use in salad dressings or drinks for that reason. A great work around is to make this Honey Simple Syrup. The water cuts the honey and the heat dissolves it.

Can I substitute honey for simple syrup?

Nope. First, simple syrup is like Honey Simple Syrup but uses refined sugar instead of honey. Refined sugar is not allowed on the AIP or Paleo diets therefore simple syrup should just be avoided.

Second, you can use Honey Simple Syrup as a substitute but not for pure honey. Your recipe would probably end up too sweet and the honey may not dissolve if you’re combining it in cold liquid.

How long does honey simple syrup last?

Honey is shelf stable and lasts forever just hanging out on the counter. However, once you introduce water, you’re also introducing bacteria that can spoil.

If you store it in a refrigerated airtight jar, then honey simple syrup will last about 1 month. After that, toss it. I was left mine in my fridge a little over a month and found mold floating on the top.

Tips to making and using Honey Simple Syrup

    • Store it in an airtight container in the fridge to keep it from spoiling.
    • Use a small saucepan otherwise it could burn.
    • Use in drinks, dressings and marinades.

    Helpful Info for All Recipes

    • I always use extra virgin olive oil in all of my recipes unless stated otherwise.
    • I always use Himalayan sea salt or Celtic sea salt, unless otherwise noted.
    • The majority of my recipes are strict AIP or include notations for reintroductions. However while I make every effort to label non-AIP ingredients and recipes sometimes they slip past me. If you have questions, please ask in advance.
