This surprisingly simple Dairy Free Shrimp Scampi recipe can be made with under 10 ingredients in 30 minutes. It’s a super flavorful dish that’s fancy enough for a special dinner but fast enough for a busy weeknight.
Is shrimp scampi lactose free?
Traditionally, shrimp scampi includes dairy which is not lactose free. However, not all dairy products have lactose. For example, ghee is butter than has been cooked down and the lactose has been removed. It’s not a chemical or special process. It’s easy enough to do at home if you can tolerate ghee or dairy that’s lactose free.
This recipe is both dairy and lactose free. However, we do give options for a lactose free shrimp scampi using ghee.
How can I make a creamy shrimp scampi recipe at home without adding any flour or cream?
The creaminess come from cooking down butter (or in this case, oil) and wine. Flour and cream are not traditionally used in shrimp scampi.
Can I use dairy free butter instead of oil?
Yes. Extra virgin olive oil is as whole food ingredients, easy substitute for butter. However, if you tolerate all the ingredients in store bought dairy free butter or have it on hand then you’re welcome to use it.
Gluten Free Dairy Free Shrimp Scampi?
Shrimp scampi is generally served with rice or pasta. Rice is naturally gluten free, however pasta is not. Jovial gluten free and grain free pasta are recommended.
Please note that rice is a grain which means that if you are following the core autoimmune protocol then you’ll need to remove it from your diet temporarily. Cauliflower rice is a good option.
