Can you air fry chicken sausage?
Yes! The air fryer is perfect for cooking sausage. Pan fried chicken sausages are probably my favorite way to cook these links because it browns the outside and it keeps it from drying out. However, this air fried chicken sausage is much easier, less messy and tastes just as good. There’s no grease splatter so there’s very little to clean up. And you don’t need to monitor it like you would when pan frying. Air fryer is great for browning the outside like in pan frying. You just need to be careful not to overcook otherwise the chicken sausage in the air fryer otherwise it will get dried out.
Is chicken sausage precooked?
Not all chicken sausage is precooked. Make sure to read the packaging to understand exactly what you are buying. For this recipe, I used Bilinski’s Organic Wild Mushrooms with Italian Herbs Chicken Sausage. However, you can also use this Homemade Blueberry Breakfast Sausage recipe (not totally chicken though) using the adapted instructions in the recipe notes.

Pre-Cooked Chicken Sausage Links: 5 links or about 12 oz combined. Make sure they are precooked. Bilinski’s Organic Wild Mushrooms with Italian Herbs Chicken Sausage were used for this recipe.
How long does it take to cook chicken sausage?
1. If your air fryer basket is made with non-stick coating, line the basket with parchment paper. Then place chicken sausages in the air fryer.
2. In a cold air fryer, bake the links for 15 mins at 370 degrees, flipping halfway through. If the air fryer is already hot, then you’ll need to reduce the cooking time a few minutes 3-5 minutes. Keep an eye on them as cooking times may vary depending upon the air fryer model.
How long to cook raw chicken sausage in air fryer?
If you are cooking chicken sausage that is raw, bake the patties in the air fryer for 20 mins at 370 degrees, flipping halfway. Here is a recipe for Blueberry Sausage that is made with chicken and pork that cooks well in the air fryer.
How long to cook frozen chicken sausage in air fryer
Cooking frozen chicken sausage in the air fryer takes the same amount of time (15 minutes). However, you’ll want to increase the temperature to 400 degrees.
Tips for making the best air fryer chicken sausage.
- Bilinski’s Organic Wild Mushrooms with Italian Herbs Chicken Sausage were used for this recipe. However, any precooked chicken sausage will work. Please keep in mind that if an alternative brand is used then the time may be increased/decreased.
- Air fryer models can vary, and some units cook hotter than others. Keep a close eye on the sausage cooking time the first time you make the recipe by chance your model cooks fast. Adjust the time as needed to heat them through and brown them to your liking.
- If you are cooking for a crowd, I was able to fit in 10 sausages into the air fryer I was using. Just make sure they are in a single layer in the fryer basket.
- I’m currently using an older air fryer model from Costco. It’s like this model. However, the capacity is small, and the machine take up a lot of space. I’d prefer to have a toaster oven/air fryer. It can be used for multiple purposes and has a larger capacity for cooking or baking. I’ve seen really good reviews on this model.
- This cooking method also works great for hotdogs!
